Overwatch High Bandwidth Servers Go Live

Overwatch High Bandwidth Servers Go Live

A post by community manager Lylirra talks about the arrival of the new server tech, which first made its debut during Custom Matches in beta. The new server tech will bring client refresh rates from 21 updates per second to 63 updates per second, allowing for game actions to be transmitted through the game faster. The new servers will also recognize personal internet connection speeds and scale down to keep pace. The team will also look in to adding an option to self-limit bandwidth consumption for those with internet providers that have data useage caps.

The high bandwidth servers are rolling out today, with full release of the tech to all regions expected in the next several weeks. The servers will be specific to PC players at this time, but the devs are looking in to how to bring the same tech to console versions of the game.

Guild Wars 2 Fourth Anniversary Celebration

August 28 is the anniversary of Guild Wars 2, and we’d love to celebrate four years of playing, adventuring, and exploring alongside the fans. Whether you’re saving the world from the perils it faces or helping build the community, there is no Tyria without you!

Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing some of our favorite moments on social media—from launch to the present—and we want to see and share yours, too. Do you have screenshots, videos, and memories of your time in Tyria? Tag them with #GW2BDay on Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram!

On September 2, we’ll host a PAX West Community Event where fans can hang out with the developers for a night of food and fun here in Seattle. We’ve held similar events in previous years, and we’re always happy to have a chance to meet and make friends with members of the Guild Wars 2 community. To learn more about the event and how you can get a pass, please see this forum thread.

Whether you’re able to join us for the community event or not, don’t miss the celebratory livestream on August 26, where we’ll look back at four years of Guild Wars 2 and the contributions from the best online community.

Thank you for making Tyria your home, and we look forward to many more years of fun and adventures with you!
